Mattel - Barbie: Wicked! Singing Elphaba Doll - Print Error Edition
The Glitch in Oz: Mattel Barbie "Wicked" Singing Elphaba — Print Error Edition
One short day in the Emerald City... and one massive mistake in the printing room.
The Barbie: Wicked! Singing Elphaba Doll (and the accompanying Glinda doll) became the center of a global media firestorm in late 2024. What was intended to be a magical movie tie-in turned into one of the most infamous packaging blunders in toy history, resulting in a swift recall and a "flipper frenzy" on the collector's market.
If you have a box with the Print Error, you are holding a "recalled relic" that defines the 2024 holiday season.
The Error: A Wicked Web Address
The mistake occurred on the back of the packaging, just above the barcode. Mattel intended to direct fans to the official movie website, but a critical omission changed everything:
- The Intended Link: WickedMovie.com
- The Printed Link: Wicked.com
- The Consequence: Instead of reaching Universal Pictures' landing page, the printed URL directed users to a highly explicit, NSFW adult film website.
Mattel issued an immediate apology, stating they "deeply regret this unfortunate error" and advised parents to either discard the packaging or obscure the link with a permanent marker.
